was founded in 1995 by Alan S. Katz and Melinda T. Brunner, utilizing
their extensive experience and qualitative national professional

Alan S.
Katz |
Co-founder of Katz Healthcare Services, Alan S. Katz is a
nationally recognized healthcare consultant, author, trainer, group
facilitator and speaker. He has a unique background combining practical
managed care and statistical analysis experience from both the healthcare
provider and the business consumer perspective.
As the driving
force behind KHS, Alan Katz has overseen the development and
implementation of numerous unique data analysis tools to assist hospitals
and physician groups in determining their managed care strategy. Mr. Katz
serves as the senior consultant overseeing all KHS projects, and still is
strongly involved in daily negotiations with managed care organizations.
He has a reputation among healthcare professionals and hospital boards of
directors for direct and insightful presentations of issues and options,
looking at the global perspective as well as the practical operational
issues needed to implement decisions. He has been active in the healthcare
arena since 1972, typically working with hospital boards of directors,
executive administration, and medical staff leadership in hundreds of
locations in over twenty states.
Previously Senior Vice President
and principal in another national managed care consulting firm
(1989-1995), he was responsible for new business development of
professional consulting services with hospitals and physician groups in 21
states providing data analysis, market intelligence, and strategy
development regarding managed care issues.
Vice President of Human
Resources (1983-1989) and Interim Vice President of Development (1988) for
SunHealth, then a cooperative alliance of 150 hospitals in 15 states.
Manager of Personnel and Labor Relations Consulting and Personnel
Administrator of the Michigan Hospital Association (1981-1983), developing
and providing human resources consulting services to hospitals throughout
Michigan. Owner of Sheldon Associates (1978-1981), developing and
providing consulting services to small businesses in 12 states, sponsored
by local and state chambers of commerce and professional trade
associations in MI, OH, IN, IL, PA, MD, DE, GA, CA, and AZ.
Mr.
Katz is the author or editor of several books, journal articles, business
publications and corporate newsletters. He earned his MBA (1977) and BA
(1972) from Michigan State University, and performed post graduate work at
the Institute of Gerontology of the University of Michigan and Wayne State
University. In the early stages of his career, he was licensed as a
nursing home administrator and certified as a social worker. Throughout
his career, Mr. Katz has been involved in numerous professional
associations. He has had professional speaking engagements in 17 states,
including many presentations to groups sponsored by state hospital
associations, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the
American College of Healthcare Executives, and several regional hospital
networks.

Melinda T.
Brunner |
Co-founder of Katz Healthcare Services. As Director of Operations
of Katz Healthcare Services since its inception, Melinda Brunner combines
a variety of knowledge and skills in data base management, statistical
data analysis, consulting project management, presentation development,
and market research regarding the full breadth of managed care issues.
Ms. Brunner has a proven background in the development and
analysis of large data bases of national healthcare services, responsible
for all the KHS data which includes over one billion patient encounters
per year. She has been instrumental in the creative consolidation of
various data bases available to allow KHS to perform its unique data
analyses.
Specialized project work of Ms. Brunner has included
managed care contract financial impact projection simulations for
hospitals and physicians, facilitation and establishment of
Physician-Hospital Organizations, assessment of local business and
industry environments, detailed interviewing, and the development of
MSAccess based software applications for providers' analysis of
competitive market positioning.
Ms. Brunner previously held the
position of Client Services Coordinator for another national managed care
consulting firm from 1991-1995. She was responsible for maintaining
current client services and relationships, special project management,
developing proposals and presentation materials, and market research.
Prior to her Coordinator position, she served as a research
analyst where she developed and programmed standard and customized
statistical studies for clients in addition to composing written reports
of findings.
Ms. Brunner completed her Master’s in Business
Administration in 1997 at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte,
and is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Business School. Age 35, she is married to John Brunner, with two children,
Kyle (4) and Connor (1). |
