He has a unique background combining managed care and statistical analysis experience from both the healthcare provider and the business consumer perspectives during a career spanning over 35 years.
Today, Mr. Katz serves as the senior consultant overseeing quality control over KBH projects. He is involved daily in negotiations with managed care organizations, particularly when negotiations require innovative thinking and affable interpersonal skills to work through difficult impasse situations.
Alan Katz has been active in the healthcare arena since 1972, working with hospital boards of directors, hospital CEOs and CFOs, executive healthcare organization administration in department head functions such as marketing, human resources, managed care contracting, and medical staff relations.
From 1989 to the present, Alan Katz has been a senior level consultant responsible for professional consulting services with community hospitals and affiliated physician groups in 30 states providing data analysis, market intelligence, contract negotiation, and strategy development regarding managed care issues.
From 1972 to 1989, Mr. Katz’ primary area of expertise and national recognition was healthcare human resource management and small employer personnel management. His book, The Professional Personnel Policies Development Guidebook, (Addison-Wesley Publishing Co., 1983), was the genesis for thousands of small company personnel policy manuals throughout the country.
Mr. Katz earned his MBA (1977) and BA (1972) from Michigan State University, and performed post graduate work at the Institute of Gerontology of the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. In the early stages of his career, he was licensed as a nursing home administrator and certified as a social worker.
