Alan Katz, Co-founder of Katz Brunner Healthcare (KBH), and its predecessor organization Katz Healthcare Services (KHS), is a nationally recognized managed care consultant, author, trainer, group facilitator and speaker.
He has a unique background combining managed care and statistical analysis experience from both the healthcare provider and the business consumer perspectives during a career spanning over 35 years.
As the driving force behind KBH, Alan Katz has been the architect of the development and implementation of numerous unique data analysis tools to assist hospitals and physician groups in directing their managed care strategy.
Today, Mr. Katz serves as the senior consultant overseeing quality control over KBH projects. He is involved daily in negotiations with managed care organizations, particularly when negotiations require innovative thinking and affable interpersonal skills to work through difficult impasse situations.
He has a reputation among healthcare professionals and hospital boards of directors for direct and insightful presentations of issues and options, looking at the global perspective as well as the practical operational issues needed to implement decisions.
Although sitting on the “other side” of the negotiation table, managed care organizations and payors recognize Mr. Katz as a skillful and respectful colleague, even in situations that might otherwise be considered adversarial in nature.
Alan Katz has been active in the healthcare arena since 1972, working with hospital boards of directors, hospital CEOs and CFOs, executive healthcare organization administration in department head functions such as marketing, human resources, managed care contracting, and medical staff relations.
During that time, he has consulted with hospitals and other healthcare provider organizations in hundreds of locations in over thirty states.
Mr. Katz began his managed care specific endeavors in 1989, serving as Senior Vice President and principal in another national managed care consulting firm until founding KHS in 1995.
From 1989 to the present, Alan Katz has been a senior level consultant responsible for professional consulting services with community hospitals and affiliated physician groups in 30 states providing data analysis, market intelligence, contract negotiation, and strategy development regarding managed care issues.
From 1972 to 1989, Mr. Katz’ primary area of expertise and national recognition was healthcare human resource management and small employer personnel management. His book, The Professional Personnel Policies Development Guidebook, (Addison-Wesley Publishing Co., 1983), was the genesis for thousands of small company personnel policy manuals throughout the country.
